LONDON (Scrap Register): San Diego–based ecoATM has installed 18 of its Gazelle brand used-electronics recycling kiosks at retail locations in London and England’s Midlands region, and it plans additional installations in the near future.
The self-service kiosks allow customers to turn in their unwanted phones and receive immediate payment, with pricing based on model, condition, memory capacity, and value in secondhand markets.
The automated Gazelle kiosks evaluate each device using a machine-vision system, electrical diagnostics, and artificial intelligence.
EcoATM then certifies it for resale, either through the Gazelle.com marketplace or to wholesale buyers, refurbishers, and recyclers, it added.
