Japan’s domestic Steel consumption falls 30.7% in April

TOKYO (Scrap Register): Japan’s domestic Steel product consumption reached 3.22 million tonnes in April this year, down 18.8% compared to March and falling by 30.7% year-on-year, according to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Association (JISR).

Meanwhile, in the January-April period of the year, domestic steel product consumption in Japan declined by 17.9% year-on-year to 15.1 million tonnes.

In the first four months of the year, steel product consumption in the construction sector in Japan fell by 15% to 3.11 million tonnes while steel product consumption in the automotive sector amounted to 3.6 million tonnes, down 18%, both on year-on-year basis.
